01.29.2016 - Classic is Always in Style

Interesting topic to come across this morning while drinking my latte.

In a world of ever-changing fashion trends, it amazes me that Classic Chic looks (typically minimalist fashion) are always hot topics in the world of Vogue and Marie Claire. Today's headline was discussing Angelina Jolie's classic shift dress that she wore for an interview about Kun Fu Panda 2. Everyone is coveting this minimalist look. I decided to continue looking into Vogue mentions on her minimalist chic fashion style.

Here, Vogue discusses her effortless travel style and affordable airport shoe. This look makes much more sense than some 4 1/2" stilettos and crazy current fashion some celebrities are seen wearing at the airport. The all black ensemble is something I frequent with my current wardrobe. The loafers are amazing and something i could see being very versatile in any closet.

Here is the wonderfully simple shift dress that Angelina decided to wear in her Interview on the Today Show. It could easily work into any wardrobe. She kept it quite simple with a classic pump, small diamond shaped earrings and a simple cuff bracelet. Perfection that is Minimalist Style!

Now for something a little different:
Mustard Sweater/Old Navy, Plaid tunic/Old Navy, Rockstar Jeans/Old Navy
D'Orsay Shoes/Old Navy, Glasses (prescription)/Michael Kohrs, Cute little Kid/From Me

Today I'm going a little less classic. It's always fun to mix texture and patterns.
Also, since we're discussing one of the most fashionable mom's around, I figured it would be quite appropriate to add this extra pic!

01.22.2016 What to Wear when you're Sick

White Tank/Old Navy, Gray Cardigan/Target, Black Yoga Pants/NY&Co

We all have those days. When we are sick, PMSing, just feeling like trash. So, what does one wear when you feel like heck? I'm veering outside of my normal wardrobe today. Wearing my Yoga pants (which I've reserved in my workout/pajama closet section). I'm also wearing my white tank (which has quickly become a comfy favorite), and my gray over-sized cardigan. I may or may not resort to wearing all of the scarves in my closet depending on whether or not I actually warm up.

But, in the meantime.....what are your favorite comfortable go-to clothes when you aren't feeling well? For me, it's always comfort over fashion. But, I do find it funny that even when I'm going for comfort, I can totally get away with wearing this at work. Amazing what happens when you clear out your closet and only have great pieces left!

01.20.2016 So, this is 35.

So, this is 35. It's refreshing to wake up in the morning and know who you are. To be confident enough in yourself to not care what other people think. To know that where you are today, you've worked your butt off to get here. To know that even though you aren't perfect, you're perfectly imperfect. This is 35. I'm so happy to be here. Such a calm has come over me, and I'm truly blessed for everything in my life right now. I've also come to realize, that at 35, I still adore coffee, sci-fi, cuddling and intelligence.

01.19.2016 Outfit of the Day - Accessorize

Green Sweater Dress/unk., Black Ponte Pants/Dress Barn,
Over-sized Scarf/Old Navy, Brown Ankle Boots/Old Navy, Brown Bag/Amazon

Accessories are a great way to make a seemingly boring outfit FUN! Normally I would wear black shoes, my black purse and nothing overly different with this outfit. But, today I decided to switch it up and play with the black and brown combination. The scarf has been my favorite accessory since I bought it back on Black Friday. It's HUGE and keeps me wonderfully warm in and out of the office. I'm a total wimp when it comes to the cold....and today it's snowing....so sweaters and scarves and boots are a necessity! I decided to go with some very simple makeup today and went with my natural hair texture and didn't bother to blow-dry (or even wash) it. Made my morning routine about 10 minutes total! Not too shabby!

What do you do when you have extra time in the morning? I have been enjoying a wonderful cup of coffee and fun conversation with the small people that live in my house.

What's your current FAVORITE accessory? Please share!

Cheers!

01.12.16 Outfit of the Day - Denim on Denim

Dark Denim Rockstar Jeans/Old Navy, Denim Button Down/Amazon, White Tank/Old Navy
Cheetah Booties/Amazon, Gold Bangle/unk.

It's fun to try new things. That seems to be the story of my life these days. A little Denim on Denim action today, with some Cheetah print thrown in for good measure. Quite a comfortable a fun combination. My only issue with this outfit is that the chambray shirt is a bit too big on me now. I must come up with some ways to make it a bit more tailored and stylish. But, otherwise. Rock on!

What's something new that you've tried recently and are really digging?

01.11.16 Finding Inspiration

Easy..perfect..look great...go...black sweater + "The Zoe" + booties..:

When you're looking for inspiration, where do you turn to? I've found that Pinterest can be a great resource. I also have a tendency to look places like on clothing line websites, Polyvore, or other blogs. One new resource that I've found gives you the ability to have a digital closet like Cher from the movie Clueless.

It's a mobile app called Stylebook.

I've been tooling around with it and it's a pretty neat device. You basically upload or shop your wardrobe. Then you can mix and match what's currently in your closet to make your own cool new outfits!

It's been fun and I'll continue playing with it and let you know! :)

How do you find your inspiration? Where do you go when you need a little OOMPH in your creative nature?

Oh, and Outfit of the Day:

Gray cardigan, black tank, black ponte pants, black ankle boots, and a big purple scarf.

01.08.16 Outfit of the Day - Casual Friday meets Colorado Snow!

It's c-c-cold outside! Thankfully it's casual Friday in the office so I can work on being warm and comfy instead of polished and professional. Ha! Who am I kidding? I've always dressed for comfort verses profession. I find that I won't enjoy what I'm wearing or convey confidence if I'm uncomfortable in what I'm wearing. I'll give props to those who brave the world in Spanx, binders, and stilettos.....but that's just not me. I work in a busy office and have 4 children, a new puppy and a boyfriend at home. I have to be prepared for anything! Imagine running after a kid chasing a puppy while wearing shapewear and 4 inch heels?! Oh goodness.

Enough of THAT visual, one more question of the day: How often do you wash your hair? What is your second day hairstyle? I've been trying some different things, but I'm always looking for cute dirty hairdo's. I try to only wash my hair every other day, or every two days. I'd love to see your inspiration and go-to hairstyles!

01.06.16 & 01.07.16 Outfit of the Day - Double Take

Sometimes life gets hectic. Work schedule, appointments, kids, dog, the need to lounge around and watch endless hours of Netflix....

The last two days I haven't taken any pictures of myself, but I did decide to participate in a little experiment. If I only change one or two things in my outfit, will people notice? Will I die? Will I become a fashion pariah?

To answer your question, NO! Not at all. In fact, I've gotten compliments both days. The only thing I changed was my outer sweater and my shoes. Same accessories as well! Pretty neat how it created two totally unique looks while only changing a couple items and still go undetected by the masses.

Black Pullover/Old Navy, White Tank Top/Old Navy, Black Ponte Pants/Dress Barn, Black Ankle Boots/Amazon
Side Vent Sweater/Old Navy, White Tank Top/Old Navy, Black Ponte Pants/Dress Barn, Black Wedge Booties/Amazon
Black Bead Bracelet/unk., Black Crossbody Leather Purse/Designer Bags Outlet

Both outfits worked quite well, were comfortable, and easily shifted from work-office attire to evening-lounge-at-home attire.

This experiment goes to show that you don't have to have a different outfit for every day of the week. You don't have to have different clothes for an entire month. By changing one or two items in an outfit, you can wear your smaller wardrobe just as effectively as if you had 1,000 pieces in a massive walk in closet. It also goes to show just how much people do NOT pay attention to what you wear. It's more about your confidence and how you present yourself.

I'd be interested to hear what items you love to wear more than once per week? Jeans? Hoodie? Your favorite boots?

01.05.2016 Outfit of the Day

Black Tunic/Chico's, Mustard Sweater/Old Navy, Dark Denim jeans/Old Navy, Black Ankle Boots/Amazon
Accessories: Single Gold Bangle, Cute puppy

Today we are FINALLY back to a normal schedule after the holidays. Kids are back in school, and I'm in the office. Since my tripod hasn't arrived, I stole my daughter to play photographer this morning. Much better than attempting a selfie. Though, she did insist that the picture would be even better if there was a puppy in it. I must agree. Puppies make everything better. Puppies and Ice Cream. Puppies, Ice Cream, and Wine. Yep.

Anywho....things I've learned about today's outfit: It's fun to try new things! I've never worn this color yellow before, nor would I have normally tried it. I've also shied away from heavy sweaters, and definitely away from cropped tops, and layering too! So, this outfit is a whole new world for me, and I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

Happy New Year!

Today starts my season of capsule life. Still waiting on a few things to arrive in the mail, but enjoying simplifying my closet.

Outfit of the day:

One of these days I'll become versed in the ways of taking full body outfit images. Until then, I'm lounging around with an adorable puppy who insists my lap is better than any place on Earth.

Slouchy tee
High rise jeans
Aztec cardigan
Black ankle boots
Single gold bangle

Here is my awesome new simplified closet!

Hope you're enjoying the first day of the new year!
